Do Blacklight LED Spotlights work?
The following is a small experiment with UV LEDs to determine if a small UV
LED could work. The spot was created with 5 5mm UV LEDs, < 395 mm from
Light of Victory in Hong Kong. They did not come with an mcd
rating, only stated intensely bright. 50 LED cost me $9.99, including
shipping, and I plan on making 10 LED spots with 5 LEDs each. Count
the battery clip and resistors that's around $1.25 per spot not including
housing (I use old PVC). |

from about 7-8 feet. FCG not a good application for a UV spot, need
wide angle black light. |

18" Black Light on the left, 5 5mm UV LED spot on the right
from about 3 feet. Very little difference in the bottle of UV
reactive paint. You can see how the left side of the table is dark in
the spotlight picture on the right. Based on this, focused black light
reactive displays will be as bright with this small LED spot as they will a
full black light if distance of LED spot is kept to 3 feet or so. |
