My monster mud entry will be based on the crow sitting on a column that was
sold in Michaels this year. I am not sure of the pose I want, and I
want to make sure the proportions are correct (at least where I want them
correct), so I will build a marionette to get the pose right, using the
zombietronix calculator. |
 |
not the most obvious thing, but that is a marionette to proper proportions
for a 36" tall person, all except the right arm (a bucky arm).
Kinda reminds me of a fiddler crab. I think I am going to mud this
thing from the ground up; the pose does not offer much hope for internal
support, so I'm gonna try to see if I can mud it in stages so the previous
stages can support the new one. |
|
First layer is burlap strips, built up gradually so the monster mud shell is
actually supporting the weight, not the wood dowels. |
 |
Finally found a head for this thing. I have a handful of small plastic
skull heads I picked up from Party Outlet on clearance. |
 |
I cut and draped the burlap, trying many different things before settling on
the final look. Then into the monster mud, and positioned to dry.
After the cape dried I added extra sheetrock mud so I could get a smooth
finish. |
 |
Lots of sanding, spray painted all the cracks and crevices black, followed
by a coat of brown latex for a base coat. |
 |
Sponged on gray, followed by white, followed by some acrylics. |

Here are the pictures I kept for the final submission. |
